How to use Background Remover
A lightweight U-2-Netp model finds the main foreground subject in your image. The model runs in a browser worker, and the result can keep transparent edges or use a replacement background.
- Choose a JPG, PNG, or WebP image with a clearly visible subject. The model and runtime load on first use.
- Remove automatically or start manual cleanup. Erase unwanted areas or restore original pixels with adjustable size, hardness and strength. Zoom and select View to pan; undo or redo mask edits.
- Inspect Mask view and hold Original to compare. Adjust foreground threshold and edge softness, invert or reset the mask if needed, then prepare and download a PNG. In Backdrop, keep transparency, choose a color, or upload a background photo and adjust its zoom and position. Prepare and download the combined PNG; trim padding is available for transparent output.
A practical example
Remove a plain backdrop from a product photo, then restore a small detail with the brush before exporting a transparent PNG.
Useful things to know
What are the limitations?
Automatic segmentation is approximate, especially for hair, glass, shadows, and low-contrast backgrounds. Source and optional background photo each accept one JPG, PNG or WebP up to 30 MB and 40 megapixels, reduced to a working copy of at most 4 megapixels and a 4000-pixel edge. Replacement photos fill the source frame with adjustable cropping; transparent replacement pixels use a white base. PNG export uses that working resolution; originals and metadata are not included. Undo/redo holds up to 30 mask edits within a 48 MB history budget; the oldest edits are discarded as needed. Trim removes fully transparent padding only. Model assets may be cached by the browser. Very old browsers or memory-constrained phones may not run the model.
What should I check before relying on the result?
Keep your original. Inspect recognition, colours, transparency, and dimensions. Automated tools can make mistakes; the preview and editing controls help you review the result.
